Helping you learn more about Painting concrete
floors.
Painting your concrete is a good way to
color and, to a point, preserve your surface. Many people on consider it
for when a crack is repaired and a discoloration occurs. But concrete
paint can be aesthetically pleasing for almost any condition. You should
keep in mind that the paint does ware away, though, and if it’s a
walkway used very often, you may have to put down another coat
relatively soon.
One thing you should keep in mind is what the manufacturer says about
this paint. You’ll find they often say that the concrete should be left
bare for up to a month or more. You should also see what it says
concerning whether or not the paint is watertight, as water below the
paint can damage it as much as water above.
Before any paintwork can be done, though, the surface needs to be
thoroughly cleaned of dirt and oils. There are three major methods of
concrete cleaning preferred by professionals.
The first method involves water and a brush of some kind (often brooms
will suffice) After this, it is suggested you clean a few more times
with increasing amounts of cleanser. First, perhaps, laundry detergents,
then maybe a floor cleanser, the final cleaning should involve ammonia.
The second method is usually low-pressure water. For instance, a hose
with a pressure nozzle will lift any dirt that has managed to make its
way into your concrete.
The third is quite simple and involves chemical cleansers. (Listen to
any warning labels and always read instructions when using these.)
